UNIVERSAL PICTURES Pushes Out WARCRAFT Release Date To 2016, Confirms 3D Release!
Today Universal Pictures released a press release and confirmed that Warcraft’s release date to theaters has been pushed out.
Sad news today Warcraft Movie Fans. Today, Universal Pictures released an official press release that showed the upcoming Warcraft Movie release date being pushed out. Originally, Warcraft had been planned to hit theaters on December 18th, 2015.
However, I have confirmed that the new release date for director Duncan Jones’ upcoming Warcraft film is in fact pushed out to “March of 2016” – about a three month bump. The only reasoning I can think of is due to the release of Star Wars Episode VII, which is currently slated for December of 2015. Everybody knows that Star Wars is going to own the box office for weeks (or even months after release) and I’m guessing they didn’t want Warcraft to directly compete with that.
From the business end of things it completely makes sense. From the fanboy end of things, I’m heartbroken…we’re going to have to wait another 2 1/2 years to finally see Warcraft hit the big screen!
Part of the press release did list some official details on who is producing Warcraft and Universal also confirmed that it will be released in 3D. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the 3D trend – only Avatar was really up to snuff in that category. I’m hoping Warcraft will be better in 3D than some of the other fantasy movies released in the same format – Lord of the Rings, Clash of the Titans, etc.
Legendary Pictures’ WARCRAFT, a 3D epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based upon Blizzard Entertainment’s globally-renowned universe, will be directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and is written by Charles Leavitt and rewritten by Duncan Jones. The producers are Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Alex Gartner. Stuart Fenegan, Jillian Share and Brent O’Connor will serve as executive producers. Blizzard’s Chris Metzen will co-produce.
