In a new interview with IGN, actor Ben Foster spoke specifically about his role in the upcoming Warcraft Movie and gives some high level story details too!

Ok Warcraft Movie Fans, IGN just broke some big news! In a new interview, IGN had a chance to speak with actor Ben Foster. Now, we know Ben Foster has already been confirmed as a cast member in the upcoming Warcraft Movie for some time. However, we’ve never heard what character he will be playing…until today that is!

During the conversation he spoke about his role and it’s the first time any cast member has confirmed the actual character they’ll be playing in the film! Foster revealed to IGN that he is playing Medivh! Specifically he had this to say:

The character in Warcraft that I play is named Medivh. He’s a mage, which is essentially a sorcerer. He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic. As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle.

Now, this is awesome on several fronts. First, it confirms that the storyline of the film is in fact based around the events of the original RTS game, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans – which has been rumored for some time.

Second, if you’ve read any of the Warcraft novels, you’ll know that Medivh is a very familiar character with a rich history and backstory! If Medivh is in the movie as a main character that means that we “should” (air quotes) see some form of Sargeras, Gul’dan, and Lothar! This is incredibly cool news!

Ben also spoke about some of the visuals moviegoers could expect to see from Warcraft, saying:

The way that they’re pushing motion-capture – I just saw some of the test footage – it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s performance-capture. It pushes it to the next level. It’s going to be one helluva 3D event.

This sounds truly epic! Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the 3D fad that’s been going around the past few years, but if it’s done right it can be truly mind blowing – think Avatar. Hopefully Warcraft will impress in the 3D arena.

Ben also spoke about some other aspects of the film, which you can read in the full interview on IGN.
